– An Invitation to Strengthen the Indian Pharma Industry
I am writing this letter as a formal invitation to request you to become a member of the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA). IDMA was established in 1961 and has since grown to become the country’s largest and most widely recognised Pharmaceutical Industry Association with over 900 members. We have celebrated our 54th Annual Day on Saturday, 23rd January 2016 at Mumbai this year to commemorate the year long activities of IDMA with the full support of our State Boards and Members wherein we launched our IDMA Anthem. The Celebrations were graced by several Sr. Government Officials from all three important Ministries – Commerce, Health and Pharmaceuticals.
We have eight active State Boards as mentioned below:-
- Gujarat
- Haryana
- Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand
- Karnataka
- Madhya Pradesh
- Telangana
- Tamil Nadu, Kerala, & Puducherry
- West Bengal
Some of our activities include our continued efforts to ensure that our members are supported in implementing the DPCO 2013, which ensured that the Government agreed to allow relabelling/restickering of products already in market, thus saving our Members from a huge financial loss. We also managed to convince the NPPA to notify the ceiling prices for ‘new drug’ issued to individual applicants separately so that other manufacturers are not harassed by the regulatory departments. We have also been actively working with the CPIA (China Pharmaceutical Industry Association), China and OPMA (Osaka Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association), Japan.
IDMA has always been in the forefront for taking up issues of the National Pharma Industry; hence we are rightly known as, ‘Voice of the National Sector’, be it at Government levels or with other Trade organizations. Our persistent efforts in following up with DCG(I) to spell out the effective implementation date of notification for manufacturers of Schedule H1 drugs included in Schedule H1 manufactured upto 28th February 2014 without labelling requirements specified in the said notification, but labelled as per provisions applicable for them at the time of their manufacture, can continue to be sold even beyond the 1st of March 2014.
IDMA is also responsible for hosting various technical seminars, conferences and training programs. IDMA along with Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Government of India, are organizing various Seminars / Workshops on GMP and GST across India. IDMA has been working closely with various NGOs and has assisted in ‘Blood Donation Drives’, Medical Check-up Camps and Distribution of free medicines to the poor.
IDMA has also played a stellar role in providing free medicines to the affected citizens during national calamities, whenever called upon.
IDMA is proud to be the only Association in the country with a weekly publication; an industry specific IDMA Bulletin. We also have a monthly publication which is a research based scientific journal, called Indian Drugs. We also publish an Annual Publication which is a compendium of IDMA’s activities for the year, along with data on the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry.
As you are aware, the IDMA National Executive Committee functions with the support of 20 Committees headed by various experts, as well as Office-Bearers of the above mentioned 8 State Boards. These State Boards act as a predominant guardian on behalf of the Association for the IDMA Members located in that particular zone.
We are constantly focusing on attending to members’ queries and assisting them in resolving issues viz. current issues related to NDPS & FDCs. In order to provide better service; we engage several professionals/experts to help settle said ‘issues’ viz., Regulatory, Pricing, FMRAI, Legal, EXIM etc. You may kindly refer to our dynamic website, www.idma-assn.org for further information.
I look forward to welcoming you as an IDMA Member and working closely with you in the interest of the Pharma Industry in India.
Best Wishes,
