Use
Desferal 500mg Injection is a medicine used in the treatment of chronic iron overload caused due to frequent blood transfusion. It helps in removing the excess iron from the body and reduces the risk of it causing organ damage.

Indication
Used to treat acute iron or aluminum toxicity (an excess of aluminum in the body) in certain patients. Also used in certain patients with anemia who must receive many blood transfusions.

Mechanisam of Action
Desferal chelates iron by forming a stable complex that prevents the iron from entering into further chemical reactions. It readily chelates iron from ferritin and hemosiderin but not readily from transferrin; it does not combine with the iron from cytochromes and hemoglobin.
